Project Updates
As part of the Greenspot Recharge Project design process, engineers will conduct preliminary field tests (geotechnical investigations) at the proposed recharge site in Erwin Lake starting around October 22, 2026. This work, including geophysical surveys with shallow excavations and exploratory drilling (boring) will build on earlier studies to inform the project design, as well as determine the optimal footprint and placement for proposed recharge basins within the site.
This testing is not construction of the project. It is part of the project's design process. The BBARWA Governing Board has not approved funding and construction of the project, so no construction can begin.
What to expect:
- Work is expected to take approximately one week and is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Engineers will be working at up to 13 locations across the site.
- Each shallow excavation and boring will be opened and filled the same day.
- Crews will apply water to control dust from digging and vehicles.
- No significant traffic impacts are expected.
- Noise associated with vehicles will be intermittent throughout the day
“We know local residents have questions about how the basins would be designed and where they would go. This will give us better data to eventually answer those questions, and we've planned the work to keep disruptions in the neighborhood to a minimum.”BBARWA General Manager David Lawrence.
Depending on the results, additional temporary infiltration testing may be completed later this year or next spring. BBARWA will post updates before any future fieldwork.

Thank you for your patience as we work to provide a sustainable water future.

Frequently Asked Questions
Engineers will be conducting preliminary field tests (geotechnical investigation) including geophysical surveys with shallow excavations and exploratory drilling (boring). These tests will provide information on soil and groundwater conditions that will help the project team determine the optimal size and location of recharge basins.
In this phase of work, there will be up to 13 total sites.
- Eight shallow excavations (each approximately 5-10’ deep and 5-15’ wide).
- Five 8-inch diameter soil borings will be drilled to a depth of up to 50’.
- All shallow excavations and borings will be opened and filled the same day.
Work will be completed between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Noise associated with construction vehicles will be intermittent throughout the day.
Water will be used to control dust from excavation operations and vehicles. We do not anticipate any impact to traffic from the investigation.
Shallow excavations and borings will be filled the same day they are dug and will not be left unattended.
This work is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act. Even though this work is exempt, the consultant team has conducted assessments to confirm that investigation work would not impact sensitive biological resources. The team is also coordinating archaeological and tribal monitoring as necessary. The team has planned the work to minimize impact on trees and vegetation as much as possible, and the site will be returned to its natural state over time as native vegetation and seeds spread.
